Social Skills Training for Special Needs child
About our social skills training

Social skills training is a highly beneficial program tailored for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), who currently attending mainstream or inclusive schools. Given that children with ASD encounter various challenges at different developmental stages, the schooling phase often presents difficulties in social interaction. Challenges include making friends, managing teacher expectations, follow school rules & social norms, and showing empathy – a skill that enables them to demonstrate care and navigate others’ emotions.
Since 2014, Kidz Steps has been organizing different social skills training, sometimes referred as playgroups for children with special needs. Drawing from our extensive experience, we have crafted a comprehensive social skills program that facilitates a step-by-step approach to teach children with special needs learn to socialize and developing better social understanding. Benefit of social skills training
The advantages of our training encompass not only the acquisition of essential social concepts but also the opportunity to make friends and thrive within a group setting. Throughout the program, participants will engage in various group activities that allow them to put their newfound skills into practical use.
Program structure
Our Level 1 Social Skills Training Program is set to initiate in mid-September 2023. This module comprises 12 sessions designed for children aged 7 to 10 years with mild autism or ADHD. The training sessions are scheduled every Friday, from 3 pm to 5 pm, and will be conducted at our center situated in Puchong.
Here are the three key topics for this module:
- Understanding Emotions and Thoughts
Our approach empowers children to establish connections between their emotions, thoughts, and behavior. Abilities such as showing care, collaborative play, and forming friendships all stem from understanding this interplay. We begin by helping children grasp the relationship between emotions, thoughts, and behavior.
- Being Part of a Group
A common challenge among ASD children is being part of the group. Often, they require reminders to remain engaged and unaware of group plans and the importance of following a designated leader (teacher or friend). We aim to facilitate their comprehension of effective group participation, transcending mere presence to truly becoming an engaged member.
- Emotional Regulation
Teaching children to stay calm during challenging situations is pivotal. Participants will learn strategies for staying calm in the face of problems. Additionally, we will discuss the concepts of “fixers,” and “breaker”. Fixer means individuals who stay calm and solve problems and breakers are those who resort to crying, whining, or complaining.
